Lifetime Achievement Award in Family Medicine Research
The Lifetime Achievement Award in Family Medicine Research honours an individual who is a leader in family medicine research and who made substantial contributions to family medicine research during their active career years. This award gives public recognition to their work and to the discipline of family medicine.
The award may be presented during the Family Medicine Forum (FMF). The recipient will receive complimentary four-day registration to FMF. In addition, the recipient may receive up to $2,000 to offset the costs of accommodation, meals, and travel to attend FMF.
Eligibility criteria:
Nominees must no longer be doing full-time academic work.
Nominees must be a member of the College of Family Physician of Canada (CFPC) who has been in good standing for at least one year.
Nominees must have a long-standing history of leadership in family medicine research and developed a unique body of science that is significant and unique to this profession.
Nominees must have made sustained contributions throughout their careers as investigators and mentors to others.
Recognition of Legacy.
This is a lifetime award, celebrating those whose collective research has shaped and advanced family medicine on a national or international scale.
Those who have received the same award in the past are ineligible.
Posthumous nominations will be accepted.
Associate members of the CFPC may be nominated.

Nomination process:
Nominations are invited from both CFPC members and the public.
Nominations are due to the CFPC National Office by 4:00 p.m. (ET) on May 25, 2026.

Selection process:
The joint CFPC and the Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM) Honours and Awards Committee uses the peer endorsements from a national review process to compile their recommendations to be approved by the CFPC and the FAFM Boards of Directors.
Applicants will be formally notified of results in August.
