New Family Physician of the Year Award recognizes family doctors in the Territories

(June 15, 2022, Mississauga, ON) The Foundation for Advancing Family Medicine (FAFM) is proud to announce a new Family Physician of the Year – Reg L. Perkin Award, highlighting the contributions of family physicians in the Territories. The FAFM is grateful to its long-standing partners, Scotiabank and MD Financial Management Inc. (MD), for generously supporting this new offering of the FAFM’s Honours & Awards program.

This annual award will recognize an outstanding College of Family Physicians of Canada™ (CFPC) member from Yukon, Northwest Territories, or Nunavut who exemplifies excellence in the practice of family medicine and is selected based on nominations of fellow CFPC members.

The Family Physician of the Year – Reg L. Perkin Award, named in honour of Dr. Reg L. Perkin, Executive Director of the CFPC from 1985 to 1996, recognizes the contributions made by physicians in each province and territory. This award is a part of the FAFM’s continued work to honour rural and remote family medicine practitioners.

“This award shines a national spotlight on the amazing work done by our colleagues in the territories,” says FAFM Chair of the Board Jeanette Boyd, MD, CCFP, FCFP. “It would not be possible without the generous support of our partners who see the value in supporting rural and remote family medicine.”

The support from Scotiabank and MD is part of their broader commitment to making a positive difference in the physician community and helping empower the next generation of physicians through continuing professional development opportunities, scholarships, and awards in family medicine.

The FAFM is accepting nominations for this award from June 13, 2022, to July 12, 2022. Visit our web page for more information about the award and the nomination process, https://fafm.cfpc.ca/h-a/honours/

The Family Physician of the Year – Reg L. Perkin Awards will be presented during the annual Awards Gala at Family Medicine Forum on November 11, 2022.
